    展覧会内容

    世界には古くから人々の間に語り継がれている、神を中心とした物語があります。 神様や神話の世界は古くから人々の暮らしに寄り添ってきました。 人々はなぜ、神話の世界に魅了されるのでしょうか。ギリシャ･ローマ神話は、ルネサンス期以降、古典を教養としていた宮廷人や君主たちに愛され、宮殿や邸宅を飾る美術品の主題として人気を誇りました。神様や神話の世界は近代の社会とその芸術においても、時代の新しい息吹を吹き込まれながら生きつづけインスピレーションの源として多くの作家を魅了します。
    特に日本は「八百万の神々」という言葉がある通り、数え切れない神様たちが、生活や文化に深く根付いています。 神話に登場する神様、山や海・土地の神様、大陸より日本に渡り住みついた神様、実在の人物が死後神様になって祀られていることもあります。また、学問の神様や商売繁盛の神様、縁結びの神様など、ほとんどの方は人生の節目で、一度は神様にお参りしたことがあるのではないでしょうか。
    本展覧会では神様、神話の世界に焦点をあて、美を追求するアーティスト7名を選出し、神様や神話の世界を表現したアート作品の無限の可能性を展観したいと思います。

    There are many stories which have gods involved. They have been told to generations of people from ancient times. Gods and mythology are always close beings for people’s lives. Why people are charmed by the world of gods and mythology? After the period of Renaissance, people from courtiers and monarchs who received the classical education, had passion about Greek-Roman mythology. It was popular for them to choose art decorations which have the theme of gods for their palaces and residences. Even for the modern society, many artists receive inspirations from gods and mythology while they adapt continuously to new environment.
    In Japanese, there’s s a phrase called ‘Happyakumannnokamigami (all the gods and goodness)’. It means that there are countless gods lived in deep roots with our culture and lives. Gods have different ways of existence. They could come from mythologies, come from lands, mountains and seas, travel from another land to Japan, or they could originally be a normal person who died to become a god to be enshrined. Also, god could participate in all kinds of parts of lives. For example, there are god who can pray for knowledge, for prosperous business, for good marriage, almost everything you need for life.
    This exhibition focused on gods and mythology, 7 artists were selected to participate. Through the exhibition, you can explore the infinitive possibilities of the world of gods and mythology among art pieces.
