    展覧会内容

    この度Gallery OUT of PLACE TOKIOは5月 – 6月の展覧会として、Hogalee（ホガリー）による「Masking / Fixing」展を開催いたします。
    Hogaleeは2013年頃より『剽窃』（美術史に登場する絵画とコミック的人物像とを合体させるシリーズ）と『原状回復』（マスキングテープを画材がわりに巨大な壁画を描くシリーズ）という別々のテーマをもとに、現代の「オンナノコ」達を描いてきました。今回の個展では『原状回復』シリーズに焦点をあわせ、壁ではなくキャンバスを支持体にしたマスキングテープ作品と、コミックや漫画で描かれる線の意味を問いなおそうとする意欲的な作品を発表いたします。

    Artist statement
    黒いマスキングテープ自体を描画ツールとしてキャンバスの上にオンナノコを描き、そのマステを剥がせば地の支持体だけが残る。
    これは以前より制作してきた展示空間の原状回復をコンセプトにしたマステ壁画の手法である。
    同じマスキングのタブロー作品を２つ制作し、一方をテープの上から一面ペイントする。テープを剥がした後、マステによって保護されていた部分が地の色のオンナノコとして現れる。
    これらのプロセスの違う同じ絵柄を対で展示することでメディアの転換、レイヤー構造が明確になり、
    原状回復をテーマに扱ってきた期間限定で可逆的なマスキングテープ作品が、恒久的に定着されたものに変換される。
    それは固定された場所から解放され、移動可能という自由を獲得することを意味する。
    今回もう一つ試そうとしているのは、一人のオンナノコの図像をあえてトリミングし顔を積極的に描かない構図や部分の抜粋をしている点である。
    オンナノコの図像はイコン性を剥奪され、究極的には線の集合でしかない画面になっていく。そこにもう一つのMasking/Fixingのテーマを忍ばせている。

    Gallery OUT of PLACE TOKIO is pleased to announce our new exhibition : "Masking / Fixing" by Hogalee.
    Hogalee has two different themes from around 2013 : “Plagiarism” (a series that combines paintings appearing in art history and comic figures) and “Restitution” (a series that draws a huge mural using the masking tape). Based on them, we can say that he has drawn modern “Girl". In this solo exhibition, he focuses on the "Restitution" series, and will present masking tape works on the canvas as a support, not on the wall, and he tries to ask for the meaning of lines drawn in comics and manga.

    The black masking tape itself draws a Girl as a drawing tool on the canvas, and when the masking tape is peeled off, only the plain support remains.
    This is the masking tape mural technique based on the concept of restitution of the space that I have previously produced.
    Creating two tableau works with the same masking tape, I paint the entire surface of only one tableau. After peeling off the tape, the part protected by the mask appears as a Girl of different color.
    By showing the same pattern different in these processes in pairs, the transformation of the media and the layer structure become clear.
    For a limited period, reversible masking tape works that have dealt with restituion are transformed into permanent ones.
    It means releasing from a fixed place and gaining freedom “transportable”.
    Another thing I'm going to try this time is that I dare to trim the image of a Girl and excerpt a composition or part without drawing the face.
    The image of Girl is stripped of the iconic property, and eventually it becomes a surface of canvas that is only a set of lines. There is another Masking / Fixing theme there.
