この度Gallery OUT of PLACE TOKIO は、4 - 5月期の展覧会として中島麦による「luminous dropping 2019」（平面）を開催いたします。中島麦は、2016年ごろまでの2つの異なる質感の平面を並列させて見せるシリーズ「WM」を経たのち、この2,3年はアクリル絵具の巨大な一滴が持つ物質性と物語性に着目しluminous dropping と名付けたシリーズを精力的に制作し発表しています。今年中島はVOCA展2019にノミネートされ、また川口市立アートギャラリー・アトリアで現在開催中の「絵画展…なのか？」にも出展しています。２会場での多様な作品が組み合わされた複雑な展示は、中島作品の持つ抽象絵画の無限の可能性を観る者に強く印象付けることになりました。今回の個展ではluminous dropping の最新作を一堂に揃え、他とは一味違った様相を皆様にご覧いただきます。
Artist statement
私は、絵画を構成する根源的な要素として「動き・奥行き・光」があると考えている。その3つをカンヴァスの上で表現しようと試み、この作品シリーズを「luminous dropping」と名付けた。ゆっくりと流し込まれた多量の絵具は、乾いた後も流動感を画面上に留め、物質としての色は多彩な表情を見せる。また絵具の層の中に空間が生まれ、作品は光を纏う。2019 年前半は東京エリアで「始点/ 展開・拡張/ 目的」を多面的に捉える展示の機会を連続的に得た。「描く」という私的な行為が、美しさ（時にはその対極）を共通言語に、社会と接続できるメディウムになると思っている。それこそが絵画の次なる展開であり目的ではないだろうか。（文 中島麦）
Gallery OUT of PLACE TOKIO are very pleased to announce our new exhibition "luminous dropping 2019" by nakajima mugi. After passing through the series "WM" that shows two different textures side by side until around 2016, nakajima has named new series "luminous dropping" in recent years focusing on the materiality and narrativeness of a huge drop of acrylic paint. This year Nakajima was nominated for VOCA Exhibition 2019 and he is also exhibiting at the “Is this a Painting Exhibition ... really?” currently being held at Kawaguchi City Art Gallery ATLIA. The complex presentation combining various works at the two venues strongly impressed viewers of the infinite possibilities of the abstract paintings. In this solo exhibition, the latest works of luminous dropping will be shown and you will see a different aspect from others.
I think that there are "movement, depth and light" as fundamental elements of the painting. I would like to express the three elements in my series "luminous dropping". A large amount of paint slowly poured keeps the fluidity even after it dries on the canvas and expresses various colors accompanied with delicate differences. Space is born in the layer of paint and the work wears light. In the first half of 2019 in Tokyo area I continuously get the exhibition opportunities to interpret "starting point / expansion / purpose" in a multifaceted manner. Through my action, I expect that beauty (sometimes controversially) will become a common language and art will become a medium to connect with the general society.
