この度、KOKI ARTSでは花房壽夫「FIFTH DIMENSION」展を開催致します。本展では、花房壽夫の新作ペインティングを6点展示致します。
前回の個展「宇宙遺伝記憶」（2012年）では、記憶がテーマでしたが、今回は「五次元」という人類にとって未知なる世界をインスピレーションとして制作しています。花房はArtDeskのインタビューで以下のように述べています。
「人は病院で昏睡状態のとき、魂は体から分離することができると言われている。それが五次元である。今、作家である私にとって、大事なのは記憶ではない。これは一種の挑戦のようなものだと思っている。向こう側には何があるのだろうかと。」
花房壽夫（1937年生まれ）は、1961年に京都市立美術大学（現：京都市立芸術大学）を卒業後、主に京都で発表をしていました。1963年にニューヨークに渡り、以後50年以上活動を続けています。1969年には伝説のStable Galleryで個展が開催され、ペギー・グッゲンハイムが自ら作品を美術館用にコレクションしました。花房の作品はグッゲンハイム美術館のグループ展に70年代から80年代にかけて4回展示されました。美術館での他の展示は、鹿児島市立美術館（1976年）、サンフランシスコ近代美術館（1978年）、アルバカーキ美術館（1980年）、バーゲン美術館（1994年）などがあります。花房は、現在ニューヨークでMiya Shojiという1951年から続いている障子屋を経営しながら制作を続けています。花房壽夫の個展は、KOKI ARTSでは2回目になります。ニューヨーク州のハモンド美術館においても、11/11まで「THE FIFTH DIMENSION」が開催されています。
KOKI ARTS is pleased to present Hisao Hanafusa's solo exhibition, FIFTH DIMENSION. This exhibition will showcase 6 new paintings.
In UCHUIDEN KIOKU (2012), the previous solo exhibition with the gallery, "cosmic memory" was the theme. For this exhibition, Hanafusa has created paintings inspired by the FIFTH DIMENSION, which is something that no one has a memory of and is a world unknown to mankind. In an interview with ArtDesk Magazine, Hanafusa says:
"When somebody is in the hospital, in a coma, mind and body can separate. That is the Fifth Dimension. For me as an artist, it's not about memory now. It's more like a challenge: What's on the other side?"
HISAO HANAFUSA (b.1937) graduated from Kyoto University of Fine Arts (present-day Kyoto City University of Arts) in 1961, and had exhibitions mostly in Kyoto before moving to New York in 1963. In 1969, Hanafusa had his debut solo exhibition in the US at the legendary Stable Gallery. Peggy Guggenheim visited the show and acquired his work for the museum collection. Hanafusa's work has been included in museum exhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum, SFMOMA, Albuquerque Museum, Bergen Museum of Art & Science, and Kagoshima City Museum of Art. With his son Zui, Hanafusa runs Miya Shoji, the Japanese woodworking business in NY that has been in business since 1951. This will be Hisao Hanafusa's second solo exhibition at KOKI ARTS. The Fifth Dimension is currently being held at the Hammond Museum in North Salem, NY until November 11.
