This exhibition marks Takaaki Yagi’s first solo exhibition in 26 years and presents for the first time “TRACE CITY,” a series of two-dimensional works depicting an imaginary city.
From 1997 to 2000, Yagi presented installation-based works in solo and group exhibitions.
He later began working as an art director and designer, developing branding and design projects while continuing to create personal artworks alongside his design practice.
Begun in 2025, the “TRACE CITY” series uses noise generated by an old photocopier several decades ago as its source material. Noise that originally appeared as a result of the
machine’s deterioration is repurposed as a material for creating architectural textures, from which Yagi constructs an imaginary city. Emerging from irregular monochrome traces, these landscapes appear as quiet, uninhabited cities̶somehow futuristic, yet also evoking a sense of nostalgic memory.
