Tetsuro Kano was born in Miyagi in 1980. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Environmental Design/City Environmental at Tokyo Zokei University (2005), and a master’s degree from the Fine Art at Tokyo Zokei University (2007). In 2011, he obtained a license for hunting with nets and traps.
He conducts research and residency programs in Japan and abroad, focusing on the world as seen from the perspective of living organisms, hunting, fishing, surveying, and so on. Deviating from the meanings and functions that objects and spaces had beforehand, he treats them in a way that makes us imagine the existence of new perceptions and multiple world perceptions that are not limited to the values and perceptions of humans. In this exhibition, he presents mainly new mobiles inspired by Orrery/Planetary Machines, mechanical models used in classical astronomy to indicate the relative positions of celestial bodies and the orbits of planets.
Recent participation projects include "Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dale / Nordic Artists' Center Dale" (2018, Dale, Norway), "Art Miyagi" (2019, Miyagi Museum of Art), "Kamiyama Artist in Residence" (2019, Kamiyama-cho, Tokushima), "Reborn -Art Festival" (2021, Ishinomaki city center / Oshika Peninsula and others, Miyagi), etc.
